Palawan Purple Crab

Main product image (Click to zoom)

Discovered in 2012, the Palawan Purple Crab is endemic to the Phillipine island of Palawan and is endangered by the mining activities in the region. These beautiful crabs vary in colour, from bright purple to a more reddish colour, potentially indicating status symbol and the sex of the crab.

This species is a freshwater crab, which means its ability to disperse is limited to rivers and freshwater streams. This can also potentially create a challenge in terms of its survival amidst human interactions.

This piece was hand-stitched on 100% Kona cotton and is framed in a 8-inch Elbesee beechwood hoop.

10% for animals

Carley has grown up loving animals and is passionate about animal conservation and rehabilitation. Every six months, an organization will be chosen to receive 10% of all profits.

Our current organization is Zoe's Animal Rescue, an Edmonton-based shelterless rescue that provides care and homes to found, abandoned, and stray animals. They also run a Spay-Neuter-Return program, which greatly decreases the amount of stray animals that end up in shelters. Additionally, they provide assistance to pet owners in marginalized communities and education to children and adults to promote a better environment for pets within our area.
